PHOENIX lékárenský velkoobchod
Phoenix, the largest distributor of pharmacy products and operator of the BENU pharmacy network in the Czech Republic, has decided to strategically modernize its data processes. Due to the increasing volumes of data and the need to ensure its high quality, availability and transparency, the need to create a sustainable Data Governance framework was identified.
Customer requirement
Phoenix needed to create a functional and sustainable framework for managing their data. The main priorities were to improve data quality, establish clear data responsibilities and support self-service reporting. Phoenix also wanted to ensure better data documentation and establish processes for traceability of data flow (Data Lineage). A key expectation was that the new strategy would facilitate collaboration between business and IT teams and create a solid foundation for future data infrastructure development.
Solution
During the project, we conducted a series of internal workshops with representatives from key Phoenix departments. These workshops provided a detailed view of the current status and expectations of each team. Based on the information gathered, we developed a draft Data Governance strategy that includes specific steps to implement
effective data governance processes and ensure long-term sustainability and effective collaboration between the different teams.
Key areas of the proposal include:
- Data Strategy and Governance – Recommendations for creating a formal data strategy that will serve as the foundation for all data activities across the company.
- Organizational Structure – designing the core roles and responsibilities associated with data governance to ensure clear responsibilities and effective collaboration between teams.
- Data governance processes – general recommendations for establishing processes to ensure data quality, document data and track its provenance.
- Support for education – design of activities to raise awareness of data governance and build a data culture across the organisation.
- Technology recommendations – general recommendations on the types of tools that could support data governance and data quality, without mentioning specific technologies or implementation practices.
Benefits
The analysis and design of the Data Governance strategy delivered provided Phoenix with a comprehensive overview of the current state of their data processes and a clear path for improvement. A key benefit was the creation of a structured roadmap that allows for the phased implementation of data governance processes with minimal disruption to existing operations.
Key roles and their responsibilities were identified. This will help improve collaboration between IT and business teams and ensure smoother progress of future data projects. The proposed solution will help Phoenix implement standardized processes to increase trust in data across the organization. Additionally, with the technology recommendations, Phoenix has a clear understanding of what tools to use to support data governance. The overall strategy design provides a solid foundation to begin implementing Data Governance, which will gradually lead to higher data quality, support self-service reporting, faster decision making and better support the company’s business operations.
