University of Pardubice
The University of Pardubice has seven faculties with 7,000 students. It offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programmes and a choice of more than 300 study programmes in the natural, technical, social and economic sciences, arts and health care. The University has long been ranked among the top ten Czech universities by number of cited papers.

Client’s requirements
The University of Pardubice sought to simplify and increase the share of data-driven decision-making, automate report generation (e.g. annual reports for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports) and provide data to a wider group of users through modern technologies with sustainable operation. The original data were maintained in different systems and outputs were recorded manually, mainly in Excel files, which led to an increased risk of errors, inconsistencies and data inaccessibility for some users and complicated data operations overall.
The main requirement was to consolidate the data in one place and process the data automatically for subsequent visualisation and reporting, including development of materials to inform reporting and decision-making.

Solution
In order to meet the client’s requirements, an analysis of the source systems was carried out. Based on the results of the analysis, we created a data warehouse that processes data for reporting and accounting. The key project activities included:
- analysis and definition of all users’ needs + mapping of university processes;
- architecture design and creation of a DWH model;
- integration of data from source systems;
- transformation and calculation of data in the DWH;
- connection of the prepared data source to the MS Power BI reporting platform;
- preparation of the default sets of reports, including specification for reporting to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports;
- sharing of reports with defined users, including setting of user rights;
- training of users and subsequent handover of the developed solution to users, who will manage it themselves.
Benefits
Significant simplification of work, reduced risk of errors, unified view of all current and historical data, comprehensive and clear basis for university management and strategic planning, automation of reporting and accounting to the parent organization.
